What's Included in a DOT Physical Exam
Vision & Hearing Tests
Your DOT physical includes comprehensive vision testing (at least 20/40 acuity in each eye) and hearing tests (forced whisper test at 5 feet). These are FMCSA requirements to ensure safe operation of commercial motor vehicles.
Blood Pressure & Cardiovascular
Blood pressure must be below 140/90 for a full 2-year certification. Drivers with Stage 1 hypertension (140-159/90-99) may receive a 1-year certificate. The examiner checks for heart conditions, vascular disease, and other cardiovascular concerns.
